We had our first meeting tonight with the agent. They don't place from photo listings, all are therapeutic level foster placements, though we can specify freed-only kids or kids far along in per any planning. We are ok with that. However, he told us that though the foster subsidy is $1500/month, the adoption subsidy would probably be close to ZERO. That there was a recent meeting, and everyone was told that Maryland is going to be putting the breaks on paying any adoption subsidies at all, except for proven, current on-going expenses of the child, outside of room and board. I was flabbergasted. My other 3 kiddos, their adoption subsidies were all equal or a little bit less than their foster rate. We are going into this, wanting to adopt, not foster forever, but I can't see any way around it. There is no way I could afford to stay a stay at home, homeschooling mom without the subsidy support - it is what allows me to put my whole being behind my kids! Has anyone heard of other states doing this?
