In specific circumstances, I'm fully supportive of sterlization. I think its a wonderful program where they offer chronic drug addicts cash payments for sterilization. And, I think sometimes seeking sterlization for someone who absolutely cannot parent and cannot make a mental decision is compassionate.

I cared for a severe schizophrenic woman once. She was so unstable that she had lived in a locked psych facility since she was about 15 years of age. She was completely out of touch with reality and had no hope of ever parenting a child. And, her sister/guardian was forced to place 2 children for adoption because this woman concieved not once but twice in previous facilities. The trauma that woman endured from those 2 losses which she could not comprehend made her mental condition all the worse. After the second pregnancy, the sister had sought and been granted a court approved sterilization for her. I never saw anything but compassion in that act.
