I'm pretty clueless so I may be totally misunderstanding the way bussing actually works.

I didn't know they actually looked at specific children/families and decided whom to bus where. I guess I assumed that they took groups of children from specific neighborhoods and bussed them to schools in other neighborhoods. Again, I am really ignorant as to actual logistics and may have made too many assumptions.

This is not actually something I am currently experiencing. As far as I know, bussing (in this sense) does not exist in New Jersey. I saw an AP article on the subject and it piqued my interest because Charlotte, NC, is an area of interest for me. It also piqued my interest simply because I thought bussing was part of a long gone era.
