Our tree is up. It's been up for a week. DH is a decorator, as you know, and together with his staff, he'll put up about 250 trees and probably thousands of other decorations over the next two weeks. He is a very talented designer. Christmas is his time of year!
Some of you might remember that last Christmas A. wrote a paper for school about being the last kid left at a group home on Christmas. With no presents, no tree, no stocking and a cranky staff person who drew the short straw and had to work on the holiday. His paper inspired a toy drive and fundraiser that produced 217 stockings that we delivered to group homes and RT's around the state. This year, we are going to focus that effort on J.'s group home and try to bring them a whole christmas-including stockings, Christmas dinner, and real presents.
A. and I are going to the group home this afternoon to put up the tree. DH took it over there last weekend with all the decorations. J. and the other kids are excited about having a tree and helping to put it up. I'm going to ask the staff to have the kids make a Christmas list so we know what gifts they want. It should be pretty easy to get this accomplished.
Next year, I need to get the paperwork done that makes A.'s project a non profit organiztion. Then we can solicit and accept gifts of merchandise from companies. Imagine how many stockings we could fill then! I love doing this! One of my neighbors said once, "Look at the doors my children open up for me. Amazing!" That's exactly right!!
