It seems that cell phones keep causing us problems.
Last night I overheard 16yo K say from her closed-door bedroom, "Ok, I have to go, (sister's name), I'll call you back later." She wouldn't answer the door, and then when asked about how she was talking to her sister, vehemently denied having cell phone access. We assume that her older sister has given her a cell phone.
I guess I've been a bit too busy to write much lately, but K is now spending every Sat. night with her oldest sister who is now 20 or 21. I think that the plan is that she will eventually move in there, if it's even possible. K seems to think (probably from her family) that her mom can simply sign off on her and sign her over to this sister, like it's a simple process and the county doesn't already have current custody of her.
Anyway, with the phone, DH asked me last night around 10 PM in bed, did I hear K's voice. I listened for a moment, but said, no, that's the radio. Then closer to 10:30 L taps on our door and says that K is laughing and talking in her room. So I go to investigate, and she is clearly talking. I knock on her door, no response, doorknob locked. I then hear the statement I typed above. I knock again, no response, then I pound for a third time, and say her name too, and she finally opens the door and acts like she had been laying there sleeping. I tell her what I heard, DH gets up and says his part too, as does L, she tells us we're all crazy. I did a little searching through her stuff, but honestly there is too much stuff and her room's a mess at the moment to find something as small as a cell phone. She denies over and over again that she has a cell phone, so I ask her again how was it that she was speaking to her sister whom she named. No answer, stony silence.
BTW, we did find a cell phone charger, which we now have. I will be going through her room later. We've let the CW know too the situation. We've said that we don't mind the idea of the cell phone so much, b/c K could use it with all her extracurriculars at school, but we do mind her talking so late at night in the privacy of her room. We have been monitoring all her phone calls, and we ALL go to bed at 9, and don't take calls after that time.
K was extremely rude to everyone at home this morning. (I left before she got up, but have since talked to DH.) She acts like she is really mad at us for saying she has a cell phone. It just makes no sense.
