We thought we had found a forever family, and it was through an a contact on this discussion board...
After being a bit too aggressive in past pursuits, we took the email that we were being reviewed for a sibling group with patience (and a prayer).
Within a week, the agency wanted us to send an album for the birthmom to review (since she was part of the decision making). Today, they pushed us from "being reviewed as a possible parent" to "you need to get here this week (i.e. Wednesday)". We were told that we needed to stay a week and then taking the kids with us.
We were both on the verge of a nervous breakdown (going from home study agency challenges to potential parents in a matter of days)... This house wasn't ready, my boss was going away for a week, we had already made plans for the weekend....Not to mention the cost of airfare this close to travel time (I saw $700 - $1,100 tickets)....
"These are great kids, and they can't wait to go home"...made the suffering just a bit easier...Until...
The (ransom) fee for them was over $10K...When I spoke earlier regarding Purchase of Service fees, everybody seemed outraged at the $7K that one agency was pushing.... I was devistated....We were willing to give up so much, but not that much...In despair, I wanted to put a message up here, but I didn't have time... Since plane tickets needed to be purchased and hotels booked...we had to make a quick decision...
In Texas, the siblings will stay...We were all set to take off (for a week), destroy our house (clean by throwing in the garage), and adjust our lives tonight...Please tell me we did the right thing...The agency said that they were non-profit, and they paid for testing and foster care...On that note, should I have taken the children?
Aggressive agency (to the point of putting many people into shock today), but out for money through the hearts of couples yearning for parenthood??? Maybe the siblings will eventually go to public foster care...I'll be waiting....
