I am at the point in my homestudy where they are asking what type of child I am willing to parent. To be truthful, I am petrified of FAS/E. Possibly out of ignorance, maybe justifiable, then again this could possibly be one issue that I can't parent effectively. It feels that way after combing thru every post on the subjects posted in the issues thread.
I think my main question is this: Are these children often dx'd before adoption? I know some have certain facial features. Other than that, how old is the average diagnosis for this syndrome? Will I have more knowledge if I adopt older? I dont' want to get an 8 year old only to find out later that I should have let said 8 year old go to a home that could parent the child better. I am just not sure that I am up to parenting an FAS/FAE child. How do I ensure that I get no surprises in that regard? I have read all of the different ways to parent them, read about the pats of the brain that are affected, I have patience, but this particular issue might drive me right over the edge from what I have read. HELP!
