I am currently attempting to learn another language. I'm so excited that it is easier than I anticipated, even though the script is Sanskrit based and the alphabet look kind of like spaghetti ohs.
I'm also surprised because a few years ago I failed dismally at a pictograph based language, Mandarin Chinese even though I took lessons for years I could never say more than a few words and recognise a few basic characters.
A Dr once told me that languages based on memorised characters, such as Chinese are processed in a different part of the brain to phonetic language such as Thai. Anyone have any experience with learning additional languages as an adult? Advantages, experiences?
