Sad story on the news about a teen who took her life: Parents: Online newsgroup helped daughter commit suicide. Many other stories on the news about children who suicide, frequently taking others with them. including planning terroristic acts at school. Or the sad, short story of Taylor Behl--or the many others where girls run away with someone they met on line (one in a group of home schooled children whose only computer was in the middle of the living room.
In so many of these cases* (at least one a week), the evidence the child was going down a dangerous path is listed in the computer he/she is using. Newsgroups and sites visited leave footprints several places in the computer.
Personally, I believe we as parents have a right and a duty to look at these places to see if they're safe. With the internet, anyone may visit almost anywhere in the world and with anyone. In thos case, I don't think the child has a right to privacy.
What do you think? And what about blogs?
