In Issues is a thread Lying and preteen girls....aaaccckkk, which has morphed into a discussion about birth control.
I almost brought up something I have thought about a lot there, but decided it would be too off topic and distort the thread. I am interested in your opinions.
Here's the issue. A family member had cerebral palsy and was severely mentally retarded. Part of her life involved her being in an out-of-home care situation. The decision was made (by her parents) when she reached puberty to have her sterilized for the following reasons:
-Although no genetic reasons existed to prevent pregnancy, she could never care for a child (CP is always the result of an external accident.)
-She would never be able to understand what was happening to her (either pregnancy or impregnation.) Physical risks for pregnancy were present.
-People in her situation do end up pregnant in out-of-home facilities.
Note: I do not think the girls being discussed in the other thread do not have this situation in any way, shape, or fashion!
I myself will vote for #1.
